The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) founded by Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji in 1916, is one the most prestigious Central Universities in the Country. It is the largest residential University in Asia. The University has 128 teaching departments, many of them recognized as centre of excellence, 15 faculties, a Mahila Mahavidyalaya, three institutes- Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Medical Sciences & Institute of Technology, besides a number of inter-disciplinary Centres and School of higher learning. Rajiv Gandhi South Campus of BHU (a new initiative) is being established at Barkachha in Mirzapur District.

The School was established in 1984 in 6th five year plan, is dedicated to promote excellence and competence in the field of Biochemical Engineering for the benefit of mankind. School has produced more than two dozens of Ph.D. and about 200 M.Teeh students, who are excelling in the Pharma / Biotech Industries and Academic Institution in various capacity. School has started in 2006,  lntegrated Dual Degree Under Graduate course (B.Tech. & M.Tech.) in Biochemical Engineering and students are selected through IIT-JEE.
